Verify your domain

Prove the website is yours with the snippet, a meta tag, a file or a DNS record. Verifying unlocks re-crawls, nightly refreshes and Map from my browser.

Why we ask

Anyone can type any address into Chattish, so until you show the site is yours we map it only once, and only its first 50 pages. Verifying unlocks:

  • crawling again whenever you like,
  • the nightly refresh that picks up new, changed and removed pages,
  • Map from my browser.

Your guide answers visitors whether or not the domain is verified.

Choose a method

Open your site in the dashboard and go to Install. Below the snippet, the Verify you own … card has four tabs: Chattish snippet, Meta tag, Upload a file and DNS record. Pick one, follow it, then click Verify. Each method uses your site's own token, shown on the card.

MethodWhat to add
Chattish snippetThe install snippet on your home page. If the guide is already installed, just click Verify.
Meta tag<meta name="chattish-verify" content="your-token"> inside <head> on your home page.
Upload a fileA file at /.well-known/chattish-verify.txt containing the line chattish-verify=your-token.
DNS recordA TXT record named _chattish.yourdomain.com with the value chattish-verify=your-token.

The WordPress plugin adds the meta tag and verifies for you. See Install on WordPress.

If verification fails

  • Snippet or meta tag: we check your home page (/). Make sure the change is published, not just saved as a draft.
  • Redirects: we follow redirects only on the same address. A redirect from http to https, or from example.com to www.example.com, makes the check fail: add the site in Chattish using the address your visitors end up on.
  • DNS: changes can take up to an hour to show up. Try again later.

Only site owners and admins can verify a domain.
